Overview

Users who follow a space receive community and email notifications when that space is @mentioned in direct messages. This affects the following types of users:

• Users with Full Access Permissions (at Admin Console>Permissions>System Administration) who are following the @ mentioned spaces. 
• Creators of the followed spaces. 

Solution

While this is intended functionality and there is currently no method to stop notifications for @mentions in direct messages for the above users, a workaround is:

• Paste the URL of the place in the direct message instead of @ mentioning the place. This prevents email notifications from going out to the above-mentioned users. 

Testing

When this workaround is followed, the users following the space will not get notifications, since the space is not @ mentioned in direct messages.
